Q&A with our founder, Matilde
To celebrate Valentine's Day we sat down with our founder, Matilde to delve into all things engagement, bespoke jewellery and her upcoming wedding plans.
Q: How is wedding planning going?
It’s going! There’s so much that goes into planning a wedding that I never realised, but I’m also an avid planner (you can ask anyone who’s met me) and I like to think I’m quite organised so I’m enjoying it so much and so far it’s been pretty stress-free! It’s been really fun just thinking of what we want for that day and seeing everything slowly come together. I have of course had help along the way so I can’t in any way take all the credit.
Q: Did you always know what style wedding ring you wanted?
Not at all. I never really thought about the ‘perfect engagement ring’ I wanted. It was only in the last couple of years that I started to think about it and started to save images of rings that I loved, talking to my friends about it, creating my own little mood board on Pinterest.
Q: How did you decide on the design of your ring?
I have to give credit where it’s due and my fiancée, Dan, really did all the work. I had started sketching engagement rings a few months before and I think subconsciously I picked elements that I would like for myself, but Dan got in touch with my design team and got the sketches from them and reworked the design into the perfect ring.
I did always know I wanted to go for a pear shape. For me personally I always wanted something a little bit different and unique, and the 5ct pear shaped lab-grown diamond with the organic / irregular shaped band in 100% recycled 18k yellow gold did that so perfectly.
Q: How do you subtly give hints to your partner on what style ring you want?
This is a great question! Honestly, I’m not a very subtle person so I would probably be obvious about it. If you’re casually scrolling (or ‘casually’ scrolling) and a ring you like pops up, just show them to your partner and say something like ‘How nice is this ring?!’
I do think it’s important to be quite clear about what you absolutely do not want if having the ring of your dreams is important to you. But at the same time, I also think there’s something quite special about ‘letting’ your partner do it themselves and trusting that they know you well enough to get it perfect. I was lucky enough that that was the case.

Q: Is there anything you can share with us about the big day
I’m being quite secretive about it but I will say it’s going to be in a place that means the world to me, and I couldn’t dream of having it anywhere else. I’m just excited to be there with all our friends, family, and loved ones and sharing the day with them and making sure everyone has an incredible time. I feel like I’m going to be so sad when it’s over.
Q: Are you going to be designing your own wedding bands?
Yes, the two of us will be doing that together in the next couple of months which I’m really excited to do. Because I have quite a unique engagement ring I want the wedding band to reflect that whilst still being timeless and super wearable. I didn’t get to be involved in the engagement ring process so I’m happy to be able to for the wedding bands.
Q: What’s been some of your favourite bespoke pieces you’ve done? / you designed recently?
A recent favourite has been a pair of wedding bands we’ve just finished working on for a wonderful couple that I’ve had the pleasure of working with. They decided to go for 100% Recycled Platinum bands, a more classic and elegant style for the groom with a 4mm band, and then a French Pave setting with Lab-Grown diamonds on a 2.5mm band for the bride.
Q: What is a piece you will definitely be wearing on your wedding day?
My Little Studs without a doubt. Those never come off and I’ve adorned my ears with them and I love the look of having so many delicate little studs going up my ear. If anyone knows me they know I love my ear piercings, so I feel somewhat naked without them on. Because the Little Studs are so little (obviously) and dainty they allow me to do that without it being too overpowering.
And I’m also getting some bespoke earrings made but I haven’t quite decided what I’ going for yet. I’ll be sure to keep everything from the whole process so I can share them with you, as they will of course be MATILDE.
Q: What are some tips you’d give to someone looking to design a bespoke piece?
I would say go for exactly what you want (within budget). If you’re going for a bespoke piece, whether that be an engagement ring or something else, you have the luxury of being as picky as you want and picking every tiny detail about it. Sometimes you see people ordering a bespoke piece that’s so similar to something they could get off the shelf and I would just advise people to make the most of the opportunity to create something bespoke. So make it truly unique.
